I ordered some business card samples today.

I hope they come back as good as I hope they are.

That white square on the back is a QR code, if you have an app on your phone to scan it it’ll be my contact info- there are apps all over for different phones not just smart phones like Android or iPhones.

Thoughts, comments, or critiques? All are welcome.

d4: Media Design

So, I got sick of just using jjanson design. I’ve changed the name to

d4: Media Design Dream Different ■ Design Different

It’s geeky because a d4 is a type of 4 sided pyramid dice that is used in table top games, but I like it.

The logo will come soon as soon as I’m completely happy with it!

Anyway, that’s my news. A big ‘Thank you’ to anyone that helped feed me input on the name, and logo and design. And thank you to anyone else that put up with my slight obsession during this process.

edit: header is up - which is I do enjoy. It was fun to produce, even better to have it up!

Studio Name Change

Name change coming soon for my “company” still working out the kinks but I hope to unveil it soon!

This is a reworked photo from Spring ‘10 at the time I couldn’t do anything over the top just a portrait. So I revisited it and reworked it.
The original photo was inspired by the move The Cell in particular the murder’s demon form.
Done in Photoshop.

midsummer Update

So, here’s a little update.

We are in the middle of summer, with unbearable work days with long lazy days of nothing to do in between. I can’t wait to start school again, to be just a student at a college again instead of being staff. With midsummer semester starting at work we’re going to be up to our ears in orientations and confused students. Oh joy. I love my job but it lacks the type of creativity I like.

At work I help design online courses (distance learning) with professors and I also teach them how to use our online system. Creativity plays into this differently than it would in the design world. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but it can get boring going over the same list things day in and day out. A lot of the creativity comes into play when we have to figure out how we can use technology in a academic way, such as the iPad, Android devices, tablet net books, and other types of electronics devices. Other times we may need to find ways to implement Web 2.0 technology in the class room. It’s all becomes very boring after a few years of doing it. Luckily I may have another freelance job soon.

I always find design to be fun and exciting, there are always new skills you can teach yourself. Sometimes you need to learn new methods or skills to achieve what you want to portray. That is one of my favorite aspects of designing, learning new methods of creations. But, I digress.

The job is another logo, two of my aunts own part of a nail salon with a few other people and they need their logo redesigned. It should be fun, I hope. My mother created their original logo with MS Word years and years ago so what ever I create it will be a improvement, although she did a great job using just Word.

I’m also throwing around a personal project that surrounds and axe in the style of German Propaganda Posters. Yeah, don’t ask it’s one of those weird things you think of in the car and go, “Now that’s a good idea!” and then you swerve out of the middle of the road.

Only time will heal you say
Your word’s not therapy
That half of me is gone
My dearest treasure torn away

I’ll stick with you until the end of the world
I cry out loud but you hear nothing
I’ll wait for you until the end of the world
My dearest treasure torn away

Until The End of the World

It’s Done!

It’s done! I finished my first paid design for Meda Yin Music. It was a fun experience and the end result was much better than expected. Meda Yin Music is a production of Enter the Pure

This is what the client originally requested:

Basically what I am looking for is a .jpg that is 975 by about 150 that says “Meda Yin Music” in an asian style font, maybe something like Chowfun (http://simplythebest.net/fonts/fonts/chowfun.html), in a cobalt blue with a cool background.  For the background use your imagination and creativity.  It could be a texture, a gradient or even a picture like a mountain, sunset or ancient Chinese/Japanese architecture.  Do what you think would look best.  And then I would like centered above “Meda Yin Music” the logo that you made for Enter the Pure.

I’m very happy with it, the original image didn’t have any texture to it. I enjoyed it but it was very flat, I tossed around idea’s around in my mind for a night or two and finally came up with the idea to use construction paper. It was the most similar to rice paper and the cheapest option I could come up with.

The texture was more similar to rice paper than I expected. I scanned each color of paper at 300dpi. I feel it was a great solution and the banner is a success. The Kanji reads (from right to left) Enter The Pure.

The translation and characters where provided by cosmicserenity.

Now my only problem is… I have 95 sheets of construction paper laying around my room. Time to revisit elementary school arts and crafts.

About

I'm hoping this will be less of a personal blog and more of what I'm doing as a new freelance graphic designer, and also my school work as a Graphic Design student.
